5 Reasons Mesquite is the Perfect Family Trip

There is still time to plan the perfect family road trip or staycation this summer and the Official Rodeo Capital of Texas is a prime destination. From great lodging options to a melting pot of restaurants, read below to see why you should put a trip to Mesquite on the family calendar. 1. Book a Weekend Stay in a Premier Mesquite Hotel

Mesquite has five premier hotels topping most travelers’ lists. Hampton Inn & Suites is a short walk away from the Mesquite Arena and complete with a great pool and other top-notch amenities. TownePlace Suites and Holiday Inn Express, also offer easy access to the arena. Courtyard by Marriott and Fairfield Inn & Suites are both within walking distance of Celebration Station, one of Mesquite’s popular attractions, and a row of great restaurants. 2. A Food Scene for All Tastebuds

Juggling the different tastes in a family can be a balancing act. Mesquite has a variety of choices to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. There are plenty of pizza and burger places for those who crave comfort food. Before you head home, make sure to try some savory Texas barbecue.

Spend one evening exploring Town East Mall. The shopping center has nearly 200 stores and is anchored by big-name brands, like Dillards and Dick’s Sporting Goods, making it one of the largest regional malls. Show a little local love by visiting some of the unique shops found in the various shopping centers throughout Mesquite.

4. Challenging and Fun Outdoor Adventures

The parks and outdoor adventures in Mesquite are endless. Find parks with open green space, a leash-free dog park, fishing lakes, disc golf courses and athletic fields. There is also plenty of trails for a family bike ride, the most prominent is the Mesquite Heritage Trail. The 4.25-mile path leads to city parks, sports fields and shopping. The trail starts at Towne Centre Drive and Franklin Drive and ends just west of the Greenbelt Parkway; three trailheads also access the route.

5. Attractions That Bring the Family Together

Choose amongst various Mesquite attractions for a day of family fun. Celebration Station lives up to its name as a one-stop fun shop with batting cages, mini-golf and go-karts. At Xcape Adventures, test your teamwork and problem-solving skills with fun escape rooms filled with challenging riddles. In the evening, visit the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, home of professional rodeo competitions since 1957. The action-packed summer rodeo season (every Saturday night from June to August) features saddle bronc riding, bull riding and other exciting events.
