Why Mesquite is the Place to Get Married

It’s hard to imagine getting married somewhere that feels more quintessentially “home” than Mesquite, Texas. Filled with friendly neighborhoods and dotted with parks, the Mesquite community has a distinctly Texas flavor and a Hometown USA feel.

Conveniently located just 15 minutes east of downtown Dallas, Mesquite sits at the junction of four major freeways—which means it will be easy for guests from all over the country to join you on your special day. The city provides ample entertainment and restaurant options to keep your guests occupied while wedding parties are getting ready for the festivities.

Whether you’re looking to get married on a budget or going for an all-out celebration, there’s a perfect venue waiting for you in Mesquite. It’s time to start planning the big day and make your wedding a magical memory made in Mesquite.

Where to Get Hitched

The distinctive architecture of the Mesquite Arts Center, a staple of the Mesquite community since 1981, is the perfect spot for a celebration that’s uniquely yours. The Wisenbaker Courtyard, named for Jeann and Ralph Wisenbaker—standout members of the Mesquite arts community for many years—makes for a lovely outdoor ceremony venue. Couples who reserve the Wisenbaker Courtyard for their ceremonies, along with their wedding parties, have access to the Library and Riser Room to use as dressing rooms.

The Mesquite Convention Center and Exhibit Hall, which is attached to theHampton Inn & Suites, has an elegant event space that can work for wedding parties varying from 20 to 1,000. You can choose from five different ballrooms that can be configured to meet your needs. Let the hotel’s full-service catering service handle the whole event to make planning easy.

Two historic properties in Mesquite are also available as wedding destinations: The Florence Ranch Homestead and the Opal Lawrence Historical Park. The grounds at the Florence Ranch Homestead— the home on the property dates back to 1871—can accommodate an outdoor wedding for up to 100 guests, and reservations can be made up to a year in advance. The Opal Lawrence Historical Park is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, and couples have several options on the property. The parlor holds 15 people, the range farmhouse can accommodate 25, and the red barn can host up to 80 guests. Parties of more than 100 can also be accommodated on the outdoor grounds. The facility is also in the process of restoring the New Hope Baptist Church building, which will be used for weddings and other events when completed.

For an intimate affair, you can’t go wrong with Wisteria Place. This gorgeous venue specializes in weddings with 25 to 100 guests, and its ultra-professional staff is on hand to help brides and grooms with planning every step of the way. There’s a lovely outdoor ceremony space, and Wisteria can customize and cater the event, so it’s as stress-free as possible. With options for 50 guests starting at around $3,000, this is an ideal spot to hold an affordable wedding at a place that doesn’t scream “budget.” For smaller service, the city of Mesquite’s Westlake House sits next to a small pond, and its main room with, a vaulted ceiling, can host up to 80 people. It also features a fully equipped kitchen and an outdoor gazebo.

Where to Celebrate

After the exchange of vows and “I dos,” it’s time to cut the cake and celebrate. Whether you’ve performed the ceremony at one of the aforementioned venues or at a local church, there’s an array of places to choose from when it comes to throwing the biggest and best party of your lives.

In addition to ceremony space, the Wisenbaker Courtyard also offers room for a handful of bistro tables for a pre-reception happy hour. There’s also the Mesquite Arts Center’s Rehearsal Hall, which was practically made for dancing and merry-making. The space can seat up to 120 guests at round tables for dinner, with lovely views of the courtyard.

Another unique venue is the Corner Theatre, a community meeting space with plenty of room for celebrating. The space is designed, in its own words, to “host, recognize, listen to, celebrate and participate in whatever is good and true and beautiful in the neighborhood.” You can rent space that will accommodate up to 125 seated guests, and you’ll also have access to the lobby and food serving area. The main space also features a stage, sound system, and lighting.

Where to Stay

There’s plenty of lodging in the Mesquite area to house your guests, whether it’s a handful of close friends and family or a cast of many. To accommodate a big crew, the Hampton Inn & Suites is an excellent bet. The property also has ceremony and reception venues, so is well-versed in offering blocks of rooms to keep all your guests together. Other local options include the Courtyard by Marriott Dallas Mesquite, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, TownePlace Suites by Marriott Dallas Mesquite, and Fairfield Inn & Suites.

When it comes to planning your wedding, Mesquite offers all the resources you need, with experienced area vendors able to turn your plans into reality. So when tying the knot, you’ll have a place that’s easy to get to for your guests, with a unique venue that you’ll never forget.
