Seven Outdoor Attractions to Visit in Mesquite

1. Mesquite Heritage Trail The Mesquite Heritage Trail (starts at Towne Center Drive and Franklin Drive) encompasses three trailheads and more than four miles of concrete walkways that are ideal for jogging, bike riding or a brisk walk. The trail also incorporates an exercise station and a pedestrian bridge that is great for pictures. Part of the path connects to shopping centers and restaurants. #ShopMesquite

July is National Parks and Recreation Month and the perfect time to explore all the green spaces and outdoor adventures in Mesquite. Be sure to include these seven outdoor attractions in your travel plans this month as Texas summer gets into full swing.

2. DeBusk Park Spend an afternoon meandering along the 1.44-mile trail in DeBusk Park (1625 Gross Rd). The star of the park is KidsQuest 2.0. The updated play structure includes ADA accessibility, swings, tall slides, room to run, climbing features and a unique environment that fosters creative play for children.

3. Westlake Park

Westlake Park and Sports Center (601 Gross Road) offer various activities, including an archery range, pickleball courts and tennis courts. If you are interested in participating in these activities, you must bring your own equipment. Need to pick up a few things to get you ready for the game? Head to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Town East Mall or Academy Sports and Outdoors for everything you need.

4. Disc Golf in Mesquite Parks

Mesquite is home to three disc golf courses. If you are new to the sport, start with the nine-hole course in Porter Park ( 517 Via Avenida). For the more advanced player, test your skills at the 18-hole course in Paschall Park (1001 New Market Rd). Although the course in Debusk Park (1625 Gross Rd) has challenging holes, all ability levels are capable of scoring.

5. City Lake Park

City Lake Park (200 Parkview St) is 20 acres of beautiful green space and a picturesque lake right in the center of the park. As a part of the Texas Parks & Wildlife’s Neighborhood Fishin’ program, the lake is stocked with catfish and trout. Spend an afternoon peacefully fishing or take a stroll on the half-mile trail.

6. Mesquite's Butterfly Trail

View nature in all its glory and abundance at Mesquite’s Butterfly Trail in Paschall Park. This collaboration between the City of Mesquite, Keep Mesquite Beautiful and several local sponsors is an interactive nature walk. To learn more about the native plants and wildlife that inhabit the trail and the butterflies that migrate there, visitors can use their phones to scan QR codes found on signs throughout their walk.

7. Mesquite Golf Club

The Mesquite Golf Club (825 Interstate 30) features 18 holes across 154 acres. The award-winning course has incredible Bermuda greens and 20 bunkers. You can play four-hour rounds and enjoy the course at several different price points.
