Ron Howard filmed his 1978 made-for-TV drama "Cotton Candy" in Town East Mall. It was the famous director's first film after leaving his hit series, “Happy Days.” Premiering in October of that year, Dallas residents held watch parties to see familiar faces and places as the mall was the set for of the main climactic scene. Town East Mall has changed its look since then, but it is still one of the largest regional malls with more than 150 stores and restaurants.

A pivotal scene in the 1999 film "Boys Don't Cry" was shot at Dad's Broadway Skateland. The film won a variety of awards, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe. The skating rink remains open today for visitors and residents to have private celebrations or enjoy a great time skating to classic tunes from various genres.

The Southwest's most famous dirt track served as the main scene of the documentary "Dirt: A Season Inside the Devil's Bowl." The film follows the World Class Street Stock team at the legendary Devil's Bowl Speedway, as the racers careen on and off the track toward the season championship. Racing season is currently in full swing, and tickets are available at the box office. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Fourth of July race that will include an 18-minute fireworks show.

The long-running USA Network hit "Walker, Texas Ranger" was shot in and around Mesquite. One of the most recognizable locations includes the Mesquite Arena, home to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. After the detective finishes a dynamic performance of bull riding and signs a few autographs, Walker takes the time to battle it out with some rodeo clowns. See the same bull riding performance by professional riders at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo this summer. Purchase your tickets at VisitMesquiteTX.com/RodeoTickets.
